Shaelin Keairnes, MSN, PMHNP-BC, is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Avance Psychiatry in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Shaelin earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Augusta University in Athens, Georgia. Working as a registered nurse in emergency psychiatry for over three years, she supported clients of all ages in mental health crisis and became acquainted with the shortcomings of mental healthcare in the community—this led her to pursue her Master of Science in Nursing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
As a UNC Behavioral Health Integration Scholar through HRSA, Shaelin has specialized training in substance use treatment and in bridging gaps between primary and psychiatric care, while her research efforts have focused on the impact of stress in marginalized populations and the benefits of trauma-informed care. This background informs her practice, in addition to her experience diagnosing and treating a wide variety of conditions including anxiety, mood, neurodiverse, bipolar, and psychotic conditions. Shaelin believes in providing care that is culturally congruent and affirming of all gender identities, gender expressions, and sexualities. She strives to center the client in all care decisions by utilizing a holistic approach that recognizes the diverse factors affecting each person’s well-being.
Shaelin finds joy in playing and teaching music, dancing, mutual aid projects, fiber arts, riding and fixing her bike, and cooking with friends and family.
