Dr. Robert A. Millet leads Avance Psychiatry’s Treatment Resistant Disorders and Interventional Psychiatry Group. He is certified in adult psychiatry and has over 25 years of clinical, research, and teaching experience. Dr. Millet treats patients with any general adult psychiatric condition but specializes in treatment resistant disorders with a particular interest in treatment resistant depression. He was one of the first physicians in the U.S. to use esketamine (Spravato®) to treat depression and was previously the medical director for the largest Spravato® clinic in the Southeast.
He is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and on the consulting faculty at Duke University Medical Center in the Department of Psychiatry. He is involved in the development of new medications and treatments for depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Dr. Millet has completed over 25 clinical trials involving schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and substance abuse. His knowledge and experience with CNS pharmacology has led to consulting or advisory roles with many U.S and international pharmaceutical companies as well as the U.S. Department of Defense.
Dr. Millet is married with one daughter and lives on a horse farm in Hillsborough, North Carolina. He is an avid outdoorsman enjoying time with his sporting dogs, fishing, and equestrian sports. He is also an advanced woodworker and traditional Carolina-style boatbuilder currently completing a 27’ center console for inshore and nearshore fishing.
